Capiz greening program reaches urban areas
Roxas City (10 October) -- A ceremonial tree planting will highlight the launching ceremony of greening urban areas on October 11 at Barangay Bato here to officially realize the implementation of the government's Green Philippines Program (GPP) in various areas of the city.
"The activity is part of a series of launching activities based on the GPP's four thematic areas," said Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) - Capiz Forest Management Services Chief Edwin Borja.
The DENR - Capiz also launched a tree planting activity on critical watershed, protected areas, protection forest and open lands in Dumarao town last August 25 and on agro-forestry as well as community-based forest management areas in Barangay Agcagay, Jamindan on September 28.
"After the launching, the tree planting activity will be spread out to promote the greening program," stressed Borja, noting that the activity will be sustained by the Society of Filipino Foresters - Capiz chapter.
A short program that will include an explanation on the rationale of the activity will be conducted at Brgy. Bato tree planting site. The program is expected to be graced by Roxas City local officials, media practitioners, school faculty and students, and other concerned sectors.
Also, another launching of a tree planting activity for mangrove and coastal areas at Brgy. Balaring in Ivisan town on November 12 will complete the launching activities for the GPP's thematic areas.
GPP is part of the government's eight point priority agenda dubbed 8 by '08 that will fast-track the reforestation efforts and the country's initial contribution to combat global warming. (PIA/A. Lumaque) [top]
