Zambo school inaugurates P8-M school building

Zamboanga City (10 October) -- A newly-constructed two-storey 10-classroom building of the Don Pablo Lorenzo Memorial High School (DPLMHS) was turned over and inaugurated yesterday in Gov. Ramos, this city.

The inauguration of the newly constructed P8 million-worth building coincided with the 13th anniversary of the nationally legislated institution, which is the second biggest public secondary school in the city.

Mayor Celso Lobregat who spearheaded the inauguration said, "This school building was conceived to help improve the student-classroom ratio".

But while the newly constructed school building will help minimize the student-classroom ration, the same is not enough, thus, another 2-storey 10-classroom building will be put up in the campus, according to Lobregat.

He revealed that funding for the project is included in next year's budget with the hope of reducing further the number of students in one classroom.

"By improving quality of education, we make students responsible and productive citizens", Lobregat told the crowd of teachers, students and guests during the program held at the school gym.

He vowed to continue the support and assistance to the education sector and cited the other school building programs of the city in other elementary and secondary schools in the city.

As the school celebrated its anniversary yesterday, the mayor reminded the school community to reflect on the contributions of two persons: the late Mayor Maria Clara Lobregat who conceived the establishment of the school and the late Don Pablo Lorenzo to whom the school is named after.

The school's 13th foundation anniversary celebration was also marked by the inauguration of the Makabayan Park, which was also spearheaded by Mayor Lobregat. The park showcases keepsakes of national and local heroes and also highlights the Araling Panlipunan subject.

Sta. Maria Parish priest Msgr. Peter Garces officiated the blessing ceremony. Other guest present during the occasion yesterday were Councilors Lynet Abarro, Nonong Guingona, Rudy Lim, Kim Elago and Mel Sadain, Department of Education representatives led by Dr. Henry Elnas and Mabelyn Ty, City Schools Division Superintendent Lourdes Alcantara and her assistant Dr. Norma Vecina, Parent-Teacher Community Association president Atty. Manuel Luna and several others. The DPLMHS is headed by Principal Norma Macrohon. (CIO/PIA Z.C.) [top]
