Commentary: After House junks impeachment try, it's time to move Team Philippines forward
Tacloban City (15 November) -- Now that the justice committee of the House of Representatives junked the new impeachment complaint against President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, Filipinos who are tired of political bickering that hinders development, can heave a sigh of relief.
Voting 43 to 1, the House Committee on Justice on Wednesday dismissed as insufficient in substance, the impeachment complaint filed by lawyer Roberto Pulido against President Arroyo in a hearing snubbed by members of the opposition.
It is time to move Team Philippines forward if the country is to achieve the First World status that it is aiming for. It is hoped that time will be used on addressing the pressing issues that directly impact on the daily lives of Filipinos, not on planning ways to put down opponents in pursuit of personal selfish interests.
There are more important issues and more vital projects that the Government must pay attention to including programs on education, health, social welfare and infrastructure projects that needs to be funded and implemented.
"Too much preoccupation with politics does not promote stability, continuity, security and order that we need to move Team Philippines forward," Secretary Bunye stressed.
Political bickering will lead the country nowhere, time and again that has been proven. Political bickering if allowed to go on in the highest level of the political area could lead the country to a state of paralysis, instead of a faster move toward economic growth and political stability.
It is hoped that every leader, every elected government official, every congressman and senator will see the light and act as a Team Philippines, in the greater interest of the Filipino people. (PIA 8) [top]
