Nat'l coalition vs child abuse leads 18th CRC celebration

Davao City (24 November) -- The whole world celebrated the historic adoption by the United Nation General Assembly of the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) eighteen years ago. They celebrated (last November 20th) the CRC's 18th anniversary and emerged as a potent force in the making of a "world fit for children".

For its 18th anniversary celebration, in the Philippines, the National Coalition Against Child Labor in Commercial Agriculture (NCACLCA) with the cooperation of various government agencies and civil society organizations has organized the children and other sectors for a nationwide meaningful and funful celebration, according to Alejandro W. Apit, NCACLCA national coordinator.

The UN CRC has gone through its childhood and emerged as a more potent inspiration in the achievement of children's rights. Carry forward the propagation and implementation of the CRC.

The CRC awareness campaigns have been going on in communities, schools and associations since the National Children's Month of October. Children's and people's parades, programs and booths involving thousands of children, youth and adults were held in Quezon City and Ormoc City Tuesday (November 20) and in Davao City to be held on November 24 (Saturday). Art and singing contests focused on the rights of the held will be among the parts of the program in Ormoc City and Davao City.

In Region XI, the celebration will be held on Saturday (November 24) in Davao City. A children's and people's parade will assemble at the Orcullo Park in front of the Marco Polo Hotel and pass through Ponciano Reyes, Bolton, San Pedro and Magallanes Streets and mass at the Rizal Park in front of the City Hall.

Expected to join the Davao City children and people will be groups from Panabo City and Digos City and from the municipalities of Magsaysay, Davao del Sur and Malungon, Sarangani in Southern Mindanao according to Jenny M. Apit, Mindanao coordinator, KDF office in Davao City.

The afternoon will see the talent presentations of the various groups of children and youth, while the earlier part of the evening will stage the different rock bands from Davao del Sur and Davao City.

The unifying spirit of all the activities will be the CRC or the children's rights. And there will always be the consciousness of solidarity with the world's children and the UN. Long live the CRC! Long live the world's and Filipino children! Onward to the fulfillment of a world and a society that are truly fit for the children! (NCACLCA/PIA XI) [top]
