NNHS, ACS emerge champions in Biliran provincial meet

Naval, Biliran (4 February) -- A national high school in the municipality of Naval and a central elementary school in Almeria won in their respective divisions in this year's provincial meet in Biliran held on January 31 to February 2 at the Biliran Sports Complex.

Based in the over-all summary of results released by the Department of Education (DepEd)-Division of Biliran, National High School (NNHS) got a grand total of 185 points to cop the championship in the secondary level while Almeria Central School (ACS) won the championship in the elementary level with a grand total of 80 points.

NNHS copped the championship in the secondary level by registering a maximum of 20 points each in arnis (boys), baseball (boys), softball (girls), table tennis (girls), taekwondo (girls), tennis (boys & girls) and volleyball (boys).NNHS also registered 15 points in taekwondo for girls and 5 points for sepak takraw and table tennis for boys.

ACS on the other hand got a maximum of 20 points in softball (girls), swimming (boys) and 10 points each in athletics, baseball, chess for boys and another 10 points for softball (girls).

There were 13 events composed of arnis, athletics, badminton, baseball, chess, football, sepak takraw, softball, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis and volleyball participated in by 10 secondary schools in the province of Biliran.

In the elementary division, arnis, badminton, football, taekwondo, tennis and volleyball were excluded among the 13 events played during the provincial meet participated in by nine central elementary schools.

The Limpiado Memorial Foundation Incorporated- Lightbringer Learning Center was the only private school that participated in the provincial meet for some events in both the secondary and elementary divisions.

In the secondary division, Almeria got the 2nd place, Culaba-3rd place, Maripipi-4th place, Caibiran-5th place, NIT-Lightbringer-6th place, Kawayan & Naval School of Fisheries (NSF) 7th place, Biliran-8th place and Maripipi in the 9th place.

In the elementary division, Naval North and Caibiran got the 2nd place, Naval South & Lightbringer-3rd place, Biliran-4th place, Culaba-5th place, Kawayan-6th place, Cabucgayan and Maripipi shared the 7th place.

The winners in the different events in both the elementary and secondary division will represent the province of Biliran in this year's Eastern Visayas Regional Athletic Association Meet (EVRAA) that will be held in Catarman, Northern Samar on March 13-17, 2008.

Meanwhile, Desiree Brigette E. Balatero, a senior high school student of Naval Institute of Technology (NIT) was chosen as Miss Biliran EVRAA 2008 from among the seven contestants which vied for the much coveted title.Ms. Balatero also won several special awards like the best in sportswear, best in gown and Miss Photogenic.

Charmaine Jane Talaņa of Naval School of Fisheries (NSF) landed 2nd runner-in the search. She also won several special awards like the best in talent, best in native costume, and Miss Congeniality.

Chessa Lumagi of Almeria National High School was proclaimed 3rd runner-up. She got a special award as Miss Fuji Film. (PIA-Biliran) [top]
