San Jose, Antique (4 February) -- The Provincial Health Office campaigns for healthy lifestyle for everyone to maintain healthy body, sound mind and body to prevent dreaded diseases like cancer, stroke, diabetes among others.
To keep the body healthy, Dr. Norman Tanchuan, Provincial Health Officer emphasized that a person should have a healthy diet, avoid fatty and salty foods, avoid smoking, having enough rest and keeping a clean and sanitary environment. Living according to our means is another strategy to keep a worry free environment since too much demand and wants in life can make us busy, drain our energy and resources, and eventually cause stress.
Tanchuan, urged everyone especially government employees to join Hataw Exercises every Friday afternoon in front of New Capitol, EBJ Freedom Park. Taking time for physical exercise once a week enhances physical and mental wellness at the same time reduces stress that can cause ailments, he said.
During the exercises, PHO is training representatives from various offices that will in turn teach the Hataw actions/movements in their respective offices. PHO is also distributing CDs with music of Hataw exercises to ensure participating agencies will have a fun time and relaxing moments every Friday afternoon.
Among the healthy lifestyle advocacy campaign of the DOH are, regular exercise, eating a healthy diet, watch your weight / weight control, don't smoke, manage stress, have a regular health check-up.
Meanwhile, DOH has the following activities for the month of January: National Cancer Consciousness Week (January 14-20), Goiter Awareness Week (January 21-27), and World Leprosy Day (January 29).
Tanchuan urged other agencies, municipal and barangay officials, communities and families to organize their hataw groups and they can ask for assistance from the PHO to teach them the exercises and other healthy lifestyle topics. The activity will not only make one healthy but will also increase productivity. (PIA) [top]
