NFA sets P1.4M for palay procurement

San Jose, Antique (4 February) -- The National Food Authority (NFA) has allocated P1.4 million as standby fund for palay procurement as it is considered a priority to boost buffer stocks for the lean months.
The campaign for farmers to sell their produce to NFA has also been intensified through home visits to identified big palay producers said Provincial Manager Procopio Trabajo II.
The government support price is P11.00 per kilo plus P0.50 per kilo La Niņa incentive fee up to March 2008. Farmers continue to enjoy delivery and drying incentive fee of P.10 centavos and P.15 centavos respectively. The cooperative which sell palay to NFA receive P.25 per kilo Cooperative Development Incentive Fund or a total of P12.00 per kilo.
Information Officer Gladdys Gallano said intensified procurement campaign aims to capture the local produce so as to have sufficient supply of staple crop to strengthen food security program. She further said that produce sold to traders are shipped out of the province. But with NFA stocks, the consumers are assured of the adequate supply of rice.
The NFA as part of the intensified procurement campaign provide trucking service to farmers selling large volume of production. The government has increased the support price to enhance farmers income and attract them to sell their produce to NFA, Gallano added. (PIA) [top]
