PRS-92 implementation strengthened in CY 2007, says DENR 10

Cagayan de Oro City (5 February) -- The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Region 10 strengthened the implementation of the Philippine Reference System of 1992 (PRS92) project by accomplishing all its targets in CY 2007.

Regional Executive Director Maximo O. Dichoso said last year the DENR, Region 10 had inked a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the National Mapping and Resource Information Authority (NAMRIA) to undertake activities under the PRS'92. He further said that activities conducted last year include densification of geodetic control points (GCPs), transformation and Information, Education and Communication (IEC).

With a target of 209 geodetic control points (GCPs) in densification, a total of 219 GCPs were established by regional personnel from the Field Network Survey Party (FNSP). Under the transformation of cadastral project a total of 31,620 lots were encoded and exceeded its annual target of 19,407 lots. A total of 56 monuments were recovered, all of which are old reference points, 23 of the recovered were observed and the remaining 33 are to be observed.

It was gathered that a team from NAMRIA will conduct a test on all recovered and observed old reference points which will determine the parameters to be applied in converting the old system to the new Philippine Reference System.

Activities under the Information, Education and Communication (IEC) campaign were undertaken in Misamis Oriental including the cities of Cagayan de Oro and El Salvador. A total of twelve (12) meetings with local government officials were conducted last year. The first information campaign was conducted in Alubijid, Misamis Oriental with Regional Technical Director Paquito Melicor, Jr. heading the team. The meetings were conducted in El Salvador City, Initao, Gitagum, Libertad, Manticao, Naawan and Lugait. The IEC team also conducted meetings in four barangay of Cagayan de Oro City namely: F. S. Catanico, Gusa, Agusan and Bugo. Other members of the IEC team were Surveys Division Chief Engr. Agnes Dejoras, Engr. Isidro Jabla, Engr. Jocelyn Beray and staff from the Regional Public Affairs Office (RPAO).

Other accomplishments under the IEC component of PRS92 include the production of 500 copies of leaflets in the local dialect, production of 30 tarpaulins and 190 minutes of radio broadcast on PRS'92 activities during regular radio programs over DXIM-Radyo ng Bayan and guestings over DXNY-Mom's Radio and radio plugs. The leaflets focused on the PRS92 and Adopt-a-Mojon Program while the tarpaulin was on the protection and preservation of monuments or mojon. (RPAO) [top]
