Filipino-Chinese community celebrates Chinese New Year today

Pagadian City (6 February) -- Pagadian City is celebrating today it's 40th Year of Chinese New Year Festivities in which different activities are lined up by the City Government in celebration of Chinese New Year today.

Mayor Samuel Co, a Chinese himself said, the City Government through the City Tourism Council will spearhead the activities which starts at 3:00 p.m. and includes the following: DepEd's children's playground demonstration, Chinese food festival, dragon dance performances, fireworks display, gift-giving, etc. The program will be held at the Plaza Luz.

"It is in this celebration that Chinese people in Pagadian City can best demonstrate their culture through songs and dances," adding that it is also a popular time of the year where it is believed to bring good luck and prosperity to the Chinese," Co said.

As expected, Chinese people will flock to the venue whose surroundings are adorned with red lanterns and banners, are eager to witness the program, to eat, dance and sing with their fellow Chinese.

Children's playground demonstration is one of the activities which usually attract the attention of the audience, where the performers wear colorful and elegant Chinese dresses and perform non-stop traditional Chinese dances.

The two-day Chinese food festival, organized by Mrs. Celia Yu, a Chinese and President of Pagadian City Hotel and Restaurant Association (PCHRA) will display scrumptious Chinese delicacies. (PIA) [top]
