Youth builds GK houses in Sagay City
Bacolod City (6 February) -- Twenty-four members of Gawad Kalinga Youth Great Adventure Team from Sydney, Australia arrived in Sagay City to help build houses at the Sinigayan Village in Brgy. Old Sagay recently.
Team leader Alan Lucas said this is their way of being a blessing to their country as Filipinos likened the act to the "bayanihan" spirit. Lucas said if everyone will do their share, there will be homes to the many homeless Filipinos, hence making our country a better Philippines.
Sagay City Mayor Alfredo Marañon, Jr. during their courtesy call thanked and commended the young volunteers for their efforts. Marañon also wished all of the youth of today are like them.
The twenty-four member team has been adopted by each household beneficiary for interaction. They build two more housing units and dug a septic tank for the residents during day time of their 4 days stay while in the evening they conducted empowerment talks to the GK beneficiaries in the Sinigayan Village.
The team members reinforced their role of creating a community of sharing. As they did the hard labor of building houses they make the poorest of the poor feel they are being cared for and thus bringing hope to every GK home and every individual. (PIA/cad) [top]
