Ilocos region's police office adjudged anew as RP's best

By Freddie G. Lazaro

Camp Bgen Oscar M Florendo, La Union (6 February) -- The Police Regional Office 1 (PRO1) was adjudged as back-to-back winner as best PRO in two consecutive years, it was learned.

Ilocos region police director, Chief Superintendent Leopoldo N. Bataoil said it is the longest title ever held among all PROs in the country and a grand slam win of its three operating units.

Bataoil revealed that he received a confirmation from the PNP National Headquarters that PRO1, RMG1, Pangasinan PPO and Dagupan City Police Station garnered the highest score among PROs in a nationwide search for Best PNP Units.

"We are very happy that it's a grand slam for PRO1, getting almost all the unit awards and "back-to-back" win being the defending champion in year 2006," said Bataoil.

Aside from PRO1, its three units also bagged separate awards. Pangasinan Police Provincial Office under PSSupt. Isagani Nerez adjudged as the best PPO nationwide, Dagupan City Police Station, headed by PSupt. Dionicio Borromeo as Best City Police Station and the Regional Mobile Group 1, under PSSupt. Edgar Basbas, adjudged best RMG, respectively.

Bataoil said, the award will be handed over by President Gloria Arroyo on February 6 during the 17th PNP Anniversary.

The award was based on the result of the final evaluation conducted by the NHQ PNP Validation Team headed by PDIR Charlemagne S. Alejandrino, PNP Directorate for Logistics.

PRO1 won the top recognition since the office was created in 1990.

The first best PRO award was in 1997 under the helm of former Regional Director now Pangasinan Governor Amado Espino Jr., in 2000 during the time of Gen. Jose Ayap, and 2006 and 2007 under Bataoil.

"I commend all our personnel down to the lowest police unit because we have shown that we are the best all over the country. This is our prize in touching people's lives, winning wars without firing a single shot and enforcing laws without fear or favor," Bataoil said.

Bataoil also thanked the various government agencies, the local government units, non-government organizations, private sectors and the different religious organizations for helping PRO1 in achieving the helm of excellence. (PIA Ilocos Sur) [top]
