RDC-6 Socdev files 9 resolutions in '07

Iloilo City (6 February) -- The Social Development Committee had filed 9 resolutions for approval of the Regional Development Council (RDC) 6 for the year 2007.
The resolutions include RDC Resolution No. 9 endorsing a project proposal entitled "Strengthening the Implementation of Basic Education in the Visayas (STRIVE) Stage 2, being pioneered in Negros Occidental. The resolution is now with DepEd for information and appropriate action.
Another is Resolution No.10 Endorsing to Congress the Proposed Amendment of the Provision in the Civil Registry Act No. 3753 on registration of Births and deaths from the Place where the Births and the Deaths Actually Occur to the Permanent Place of Residence of the Parents.
Another related resolution is RDC Res. No. 11 Endorsing to Congress the Proposed Amendment on the New Civil Code and Family Code by Changing the Word "Illegitimate" Child for Births Outside of Marriage to More Politically and socially acceptable Term.
This and Resolution No. 10 were sent to the House of Representatives and the Office of the Secretary General had acknowledged receipt of the resolutions.
The fourth resolution is RDC Res. No. 12 enjoining the Local Government Units to organize Responsible Parenting Movement from the province down to the barangay level.
Related to the fourth is RDC Resolution 13 Enjoining the Local Government Units to Establish Birthing Stations in the City and Municipal Health Stations in their Localities.
NEDA reported that some Provincial Planning and Development Offices (PPDO) in the region have positively responded, with PPDO-Antique sending the resolution to all mayors and ABC presidents in the province.
DOH 6 Asst. Dir. Ariel Valencia said the agency has strongly pushed for this to address problems on maternal deaths.
Meanwhile, all provinces of Western Visayas have responded to RDC Res. No. 25, which enjoins all LGUs to support the implementation of the Nutrition Program in the region, by activating their Provincial, Municipal, City Nutrition Committees and intensifying implementation of their nutrition programs.
On the other hand, two resolutions, RDC Res. Nos. 26 and 27, urging the LGUs to implement the Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) Program and the strengthening of local councils for protection of children, have also been gaining support with the gradual establishing of these bodies.
The RDC has also endorsed to NEDA Central office the CY 2006 Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and the International Conference on Population and Development Progress Report of Region VI.
NEDA said the MDG Progress Report is for final printing and for submission to their central office.
These resolutions were meant to boost the programs and projects of the member agencies of the RDC Social Development sub-committee to benefit their beneficiaries. (PIA 6) [top]
