Local Peace and Security Assembly line-up of activities bared

Davao City (7 February) -- The two-day Local Peace and Security Assembly for Davao Region will be filled with activities that include situationers, updates and workshops focusing mainly on internal security matters. The LPSA is set to commence this Thursday, February 9.
An estimated 300 participants coming from different sectors in the region will participate in the Assembly, which will be held in the newly renovated Bulwagan Panlalawigan (Provincial Hall) at the Provincial Capitol Complex of Davao del Norte in Tagum City.
Expected to attend are Local Government executives in the Region, heads of different National Agencies, Army and Police officials. Among those in attendance will be National Security specialists from the National Security Council.
No less than President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo will grace the last day of the LPSA where she will be presented by the output of the Assembly culled from their half-day workshops.
Among topics in the LPSA includes an overview of the local peace and security assembly, ending armed rebellion and lawlessness, an insurgency, peace and order situationer in the region.
Updates on the Peace process and the role of the Davao Region in a first world setting would also be discussed during the event. National Security Adviser Norberto Gonzales will talk on the Challenges of Peace to the Local Government Officials.
With the theme, "Peace and Security: Our Shared Responsibility, the summit was initiated by the Office of the President through the National Security Council (NSC). The LPSA is accordance with Executive Order 546 signed by the President in 2006 that stated the important role of local officials in preparing a comprehensive internal security plans in their respective localities.
Some parts of the Region particularly in the hinterlands of Davao del Norte, Compostela Valley and Davao Oriental are currently bedeviled by the presence of various Front Committees belonging to the communist New People's Army. (PIA) [top]
