130 Kalingans apply for jobs overseas

by L. Lopez

TABUK CITY, Kalinga (8 February) -- Brighter future awaits the 130 applicants who applied in various job openings abroad under the Provincial Recruitment Agency (PRA) program of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) here.

Lourdes Cansano of DOLE-Kalinga said there were two batches of recruitments here last month by the Steadfast International Recruitment Agency (SIRA), based in Manila and Phil Quest of Tuguegarao City.

Another took place last January 30-31 by STD Manpower of Tuguegarao City on domestic helpers for Hongkong, but the figures are still being finalized.

66 applied as factory workers, domestic helpers and engineers for Taiwan under SIRA, while 64 applied as skilled workers for the Middle East, Cansano said. DOLE will submit the list to the Philippine Overseas Employment Authority (POEA) for proper registration.

DOLE has urged applicants for works overseas to transact with their office to avoid cases of illegal recruitment, under the PRA program.

Cansano said the applicants will wait for their calls and schedules for preliminary trainings and other requirements by the recruiting agencies.

Under the DOLE program, most OFWs deployed find security in job terms and are provided necessary assistance in cases of emergencies abroad. (PIA Kalinga) [top]
