KIANGAN, Ifugao (8 February) -- The local officials here have slated another festival that would n lure local and foreign tourists to come and visit the municipality.

Mayor Jonathan Cuyahon said aside from the festival in April which is the 'Gotad ad Kiangan", a "Love Festival" will be conducted this February 14, Valentine's Day.

Barangays of Kiangan as well as representatives from other municipalities will be presenting traditional or Ifugao's way of courtships as well rituals to have a lasting relationship. Native love songs and dances will also be presented.

Serving of the town's famous "baya" (native rice wine) is part of the occasion and visitors are expected to taste and enjoy it. As explained by the mayor, festival is an added avenue to promote Kiangan's One Town One Product (OTOP) that includes the "baya" and blacksmith.

A search for Mr. and Miss Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) will also be conducted. Proceeds of the activity would be used for the sports program of the SKs.

Expected guests include officials from the National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC) and municipal mayors from the province.

Coinciding with the event is the inauguration of the multipurpose covered gym infront of the town's municipal hall.

Funded from the Priority Development Assistance Fund (PDAF) of Congressman Solomon Chungalao, this is the first covered gym to be constructed in the province. This is the congressman's support to the sports development programs of the municipality, Cuyahon said adding that all the other municipalities in the province will also be provided with their own gyms.

He said that the second phase of the project would be the basketball court, benches, electronic timer and the like. Other projects on infra development is the construction of a two storey legislative multipurpose building.

We have chosen to invite officials from the NAPC so that we can have a dialogue with them to present our water source problem for the households, Cuyahon added. (fnm/PIA-CAR) [top]
