Hingyon passes food handlers ordinance

HINGYON, Ifugao (8 February) -- To ensure the general health and safety of its inhabitants, the Sangguniang Bayan here enacted an ordinance recently requiring all food handlers to undergo medical examination before engaging in food related business within the municipality.

The ordinance known as Food handlers aims to ensure and promote health and safety of the people s of Hingyon as it has been observed that some private establishments are engaging in food related business without the proper medical examination.

The ordinance stated that the Municipal Treasury's Office (MTO) will not issue permits to all established food related business and handlers unless they have a food handlers certificate issued by municipal health office with a P50.00 as fee. Before having a certificate they should undergo the food handling seminar.

Furthermore, no owner of food establishments shall employ any cook, baker or food dispenser with out food handlers certificate which is renewable annually and to obtain a certificate they should undergo the food handling seminar.

As penalty of violating the provision of the ordinance, the municipal mayor after investigation may revoke the business permit and privilege of an individual to operate business until restored by the SB. (PIA-Ifugao) [top]
