LAGAWE, Ifugao (8 February) -- To avert damage to life and property in times of calamity, the Office of the Civil Defense (OCD) - CAR conducted a contingency plan workshop seminar here to members of the Provincial and Municipal Coordinating Council recently.
According to Provincial OCD coordinator Marcela Cortez, the activity aimed to coordinate people, agencies and organizations to a common understanding to avoid duplication in activities and do rapid and effective response in times of calamities.
Cortez added that the concept underlying Contingency Planning for emergencies is to strengthen and enhance the operational capabilities of LGUs in responding to any emergency situation in their locality and ensure the availability of stand-by resources for immediate assistance to disaster victims and ultimately save lives.
She informed that the 66 participants were able to do area profiling, identify the root causes and impact of the different hazards in the community, identify needs, resources, tasks of the different agencies and proper coordination.
"These outputs act as basis for the municipal disaster coordinating councils (MDCC) to formulate a contingency plan for their own respective municipalities" Cortez said.
The contingency planning formulation workshop was sponsored by the OCD - CAR with OCD Regional Director and Executive Officer of the Cordillera Regional Disaster Coordinating Council (CRDCC), Dir. Elvira G Calina and Planning and Training Officer, Imelda Acosta as resource speakers. (PIA-Ifugao) [top]
