UP Open University celebrates 13th year
Quezon City (13 February) -- On 23 February 2008, the University of the Philippines Open University will turn 13 years old.
To celebrate this milestone, the university has prepared various activities to be held at its headquarters in Los Banos, Laguna on 20 February 2008. The theme of the celebration is "Matibay na Ugat, Mayabong na Sanga."
The highlight of the celebration is the groundbreaking for the UPOU Digital Learning Center. This will be led by National Artist Napoleon Abueva, UP President Emerlinda R. Roman, and UPOU Chancellor Grace Javier Alfonso.
UPOU will also launch a new book titled "Distance Education in the Philippines: Issues and Concerns" authored by Dr. Felix Librero, former Chancellor of UPOU and recently installed as UP Faculty Regent.
UPOU, the fifth constituent university of the UP System, offers 24 degree programs and 7 nonformal courses through distance education. As distance learners, UPOU students study on their own time and place using carefully prepared learning materials such as printed modules, interactive CDs, and multimedia-materials. Support services, i.e., online tutorials, eLibrary, eCounselling, and tele- and videoconferencing are also provided to the students.
