TransCo undertakes maintenance on power transformer
General Santos City (13 February) -- State-run power transmission firm TRANSCO will undertake preventive maintenance schedule (PMS) of its 50 MVA power transformer unit 3 at the Gen. Santos Substation in Mabuhay, this city, on Sunday, February 17 beginning at 8:00 in the morning until 5:00 in the afternoon.
According to Engr. Ricardo C. Labso, principal engineer for substation, the PMS will affect two main power lines namely, the Klinan-Ligaya 69 kilovolt transmission line and SARI-Glan 69 kilovolt transmission line.
However, power along the Klinan-Ligaya line will be shutdown only from 8:00-9:00 in the morning on Sunday, while the SARI-Glan line will be shutdown from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The 8:00 AM – 5 PM interruption will allow line personnel to execute line maintenance activities along the line.
In a related vein, the Klinan-Ligaya line which is being served by transformer unit 3 will be served by transformer units 1 and 2 while the former undergoes PMS. Thus, power supply will be made available to the said line.
However, at 4:30 PM, power along the Klinan-Ligaya line will be interrupted to reconnect it with transformer unit 3 which is expected to have completed its PMS.
At 5:00 in the afternoon, power will normalize when both the Klinan-Ligaya and SARI-Glan lines will be served by transformer unit 3.
The SARI-Glan line serves the municipalities of Alabel, Malapatan and Glan in Sarangani province.
Engr. Bonifacio Colipano, Gen. Santos branch manager said that preventive maintenance activities are essential to ensure the optimized output and long operational life of high voltage equipment and accessories. (Transco/PIA SarGen) [top]
