RDC pledges support for dev't of pineapple industry in Camarines Norte

Daet, Camarines Norte (15 February) -- Members of the Regional Development Council (RDC) has pledged support for the development of pineapple industry in this province.

During the RDC out-of-town meeting held at Villa Mila here last February 8, Labo mayor Winefredo Oco called for support to the development of pineapple industry in the province now being made famous by the Queen pineapple Formosa variety.

Aside from the support for the development of the pineapple industry, Albay Governor Joey Sarte Salceda, RDC chair, urged the council to craft additional infrastructure projects for Camarines Norte.

This, after the RDC approved the CY 2008 Annual Investment Program (AIP) of the economic sector submitted by the Economic Development Committee of the RDC for RDC endorsement to Agency Central Offices (ACO) and the Department of Budget and Management (DBM).

The RDC Economic Sector Committee is composed of twelve agencies whose proposed projects are supportive to the objectives and strategies of the updated Bicol Regional Development Plan (RDP) for CY 2008-2010.

The projects in the proposed AIP CY 2009 of the economic sector are contained in the RDIP consisting of regular programs/projects for funding under the General Appropriations Act (GAA), Foreign-Assisted Projects (FAPs) and National Lump sum.

The following agencies that submitted their AIPs includes: Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), P39.4 million; Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), P1.22 billion; Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), P559.2 million; Department of Science and Technology (DOST), P85.1 million; Department of Tourism (DOT), P18.8 million; Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), P29.9 million; Fiber Industry Development Authority (FIDA), P111.3 million; Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB), P10.0 million; National Food Authority (NFA), P145.3 million; and Philippine Coconut Authority (PCA), P133.9 million.
