Winners of Capiz chess tourney named

Roxas City (15 February) -- Argie Nobleza of Barangay Tiza here topped the Mayor Vicente B. Bermejo Cup Chess Tournament organized recently by the Capiz Chess Association, Inc. at Gaisano City Roxas Mall here.

Benny Cortes, Public Information Officer of the City Government of Roxas, said the champion pocketed the top cash prize of P2, 000.00 and trophy.

First runner-up was Pericles Chua of Mt. Carmel, also this city, who brought home P1, 500.00 and medal.

Mirol Delco of Punta Tabuc, Joesel Oquendo and Anthony Arcangeles of the City Engineer's Office, all of this city, also got medals and cash prizes of P1, 000.00, P500.00 and P300.00 for their 2nd runner-up, 3rd runner-up and 4th runner-up finish, respectively.

Pegah Cam of Barangay Dinginan here was chosen as the top female performer and got P250.00 cash prize. She got an additional P250.00 as the top kiddie performer (below 14 years old category).

Manuel Cambe, tournament director and president of Paseo de Catedral Chess Club, said the organizers thanked City Mayor Bermejo for supporting the event that sought to discover new talents who could represent the province of Capiz and this capital city in various levels of chess competitions.
