Tabuk City, Kalinga (15 February) -- The Department of Agriculture awarded 16 more units of multi-purpose drying pavements to the local irrigator's associations, making to 30 the total units now given to the province.
Provincial Agriculturist Gerry Jose said the 16 units are part of last year's allocation to Kalinga from DA-CAR. The project is a component of government's enhancement program on hybrid rice commercialization in the province under the Ginintuang Masaganang Ani (GMA) Rice program.
Irrigator's associations are encouraged to plant at least 200 hectares to hybrid rice so they can qualify as beneficiaries of the project. Beneficiaries need to be organized groups in line with government's agenda of distributing support facilities to greater number of farmers.
Jose said DA allots P100,000 per MPDP unit and beneficiaries provide as counterpart the lot and labor of the project.
As implementation scheme, irrigators will first shoulder the initial expenses for the project and could reimburse it after completion of the project, supported by proper documentation, Jose said.
Jose said the 16 units are awarded in time for the coming harvest season from November 2007 to April this year. (PIA Kalinga) [top]
