DOST bares 276 Negrense scholars
Negros Occ. (19 February) -- Scholars of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in the province has now reached 276, OIC- Office of the Provincial Science and Technology Director Engr. Allan Francis Daraug, said.
The scholars are enjoying a monthly stipend of P3,000 for those who took a DOST- Science Education Institute (SEI) and P4,000 for those who are enrolled in a Physics course. They also receive a P3,000 book allowance per academic year with group health and accident insurance.
Students are studying at the Technological University of the Philippines-Visayas (TUP-V), University of St. La Salle, Univesity of Negros Occ. –Recoletos (UNO-R), West Negros Univesity (WNU), Colegio De San Agustin-Bacolod (CSA-B), Carlos Hilado Memorial State College (CHMSC), and Negros State College of Agriculture (NESCA).
Among the courses scholars are taking include BS in Electronics and Communications Engineering, BS in Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, and teaching in Basic Science- Chemistry and Physic.
The Arroyo administration, in a bid to strengthen the country's standing in Science and Technology, has instituted reforms in the department encouraging more students to take science and engineering courses and granting of scholarships to DOST employees. (PIA-LOL) [top]
