KIANGAN, Ifugao (23 February) -- Heeding to the call of Police Provincial Director PSSupt. Joseph Adnol to lecture in schools to minimize crimes committed by minors, members of the police force here conducted an information drive on the rights and responsibilities of a child.
PO1 Maldrid Liwayan said that they conducted the information drive at the Kiangan Central School (KCS) since there are crimes committed by some pupils here such as robbery.
Liwayan disclosed that there were three cases of robbery committed in January and one in February this year, mostly on stores. The kids just took something to eat and coins which were left by the storeowners, she said.
According to Liwayan, one of the reasons why there are robbery cases is because the activities of the kids are not supervised by their parents. "This is the reason why we advised them to go home early and do some wholesome activities such as helping their parents in some household chores," Liwayan said.
The activity, which was conducted to grades one to six pupils, also include lectures on their rights as children and their responsibilities. We were delighted that the children were responsive to our call for them to vigilant of their rights but they must also do their responsibilities Liwayan said.
She also said that the teachers appreciate the initiative of the police here especially in the formation of the children. (PIA-Ifugao) [top]
