Davao small hotels form SHAD

by Prix D Banzon

Davao City (23 February) -- Small hotels in Davao City bonded together and organized the Small Hotels Association of Davao primarily to tie up with the Davao Association of Tour Operators (DATO) and bring in more tourists to Davao City.

SHAD president Anna Marie Abaca in an interview during the opening of the Davao Travel Show on leisure and lifestyle exposition at the Event Center of SM City said there are about 26 small hotels that are members of the association.

These hotels, she said, cater to both international and domestic tourists and are p0erforming well.

"Most of our international clients are families and these are our guests for more than three years already," she said.

She said they do their bookings themselves considering that they had established contacts.

"Many of them knew our hotels through word of mouth," she said.

In fact most of our hotels are uploaded in the net through the Lonely Planet site where information on rates and other basic information of the hotels are placed, she added.

Abaca also said they offer budget packages to international tourists mostly from Germany and Japan as well as backpackers and other local visitors.

She bared that most of their local visitors are those who attend corporate activities who transfer to their hotels after deciding to stay for few more days.

Meanwhile, Susan Palad, president of the Davao Association of Tour Operators (DATO) said that they are coming up with a twin package with SHAD saying that it would come out more cheaper if they book a tour plus a hotel accommodation.

She said this is what they would be promoting this year and they are optimistic of a good result about the new packages.

She also said that budget packages are attractive to visitors who wanted to explore the city's tourism destinations that include exploring the island resorts and highland destinations.

"With this cooperation we expect a good number of visitors to come to Davao this year," she added. (PIA) [top]
