Observance of February as civil registration month ends today

Naval, Biliran (February 29) -- Even as the monthlong observance of February as Civil Registration Month ends today, the National Statistics Office (NSO) in the province of Biliran will continue its information dissemination campaign to high school students provincewide on the services it offers to the Biliranons.
In an interview with Rosemarie Lumbre, Provincial Statistics Officer, she informed that NSO coordinated with the Association of Biliran Civil Registry Personnel (ABCRP) and lined-up various activities to highlight the celebration.
One of the activities was the conduct of the provincial civil registration quiz which was held last February 12. The top three winners represented the province of Biliran in the regional finals held in the city of Ormoc on February 27, 2008.
Part of the activities of NSO to highlight the celebration is the free issuance of birth certificates which started last February 27 and will end today, February 29, the day of the PGMA Caravan.
She added that the muncipalities of Kawayan, Almeria and Culaba scheduled a mass wedding to couples who have been living together for a number of years without the benefit of marriage likewise forms one of the highlights of the celebration.
Today, as NSO participateds in the PGMA Caravan, a mobile free registration service by all Civil Registry Officers in the province will be offered to the Biliranons.
The Civil Registration Month celebration in February of every year is mandated per Proclamation No. 682 dated January 28, 1991 which was issued by former President Corazon Aquino.
This year's theme of the celebration is centered on the theme "Tamang Rehistro, Daan sa Kinabukasan Mo". (PIA-Biliran) [top]
