Ombudsman Visayas sets anti-corruption drive
Iloilo City (29 February) -- To further strengthen anti corruption commitments of the public and private sectors, the Office of the Ombudsman-Visayas is set to hold an anti-corruption drive dubbed National Anti-Corruption Program of Action (NACPA) Roadshow.
This was disclosed by Assistant Ombudsman Virginia P. Santiago during her recent visit here in Iloilo City.
With the theme "Katiwalian ay Labanan, Maging Tapat sa Bayan", the NACPA Roadshow will be held in Cebu City on March 13 to 14, 2008.
Spearheaded by the Ombudsman, the NACPA is an initiative for the convergence of anti-corruption efforts in the country. This was launched on March 17, 2006.
The NACPA aims to achieve the following: serve as avenue for effective consultations and coordination among key anti-corruption players; streamline and strengthen anti-corruption commitment of government, civil society, business sector and donor community under a comprehensive strategic framework, install an anti-corruption performance measurement system; and social marketing of anti-corruption success stories for greater public support and investor confidence.
Under the NACPA, an advisory and consultative body has been formed called the Multi-Sectoral Corruption Council. This is composed of members coming from the public and private sectors with the aim to unite all anti-corruption programs and promote integrity and excellence.
The two-day event, said Santiago, will kick-off with a Multi-Sectoral Forum with the Ombudsman at 5 p.m. on March 13.
On March 14, a Good Governance Parade is scheduled with the Cebu Provincial Capitol as the Assembly Area. This will be followed by a program with Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez as the keynote speaker.
Another highlight of the event is the opening of the Public Assistance Booths called "Express Serbisyo Publiko".
Santiago said NACPA Roadshows were also successfully held in Manila and in Mindanao. (PIA) [top]
