Region 8 continues to push for welfare of disabled persons

Tacloban City (February 29) -- The Regional Committee for the Welfare of Disable Persons, continues in its relentless effort to look into the welfare of disable persons in Eastern Visayas, Director Letecia Corillo of DSWD 8, who is the chair of the committee disclosed.

The RCWDP will in fact meet on March 5, 2008 at the Cawacsi Training Center at San Jose, Tacloban City, in order to present the Committee's targets and plans for calendar year 2008.

Director Corillo said that the National Committee for the Welfare of Disable Persons' Thrusts and Directions for this year will also be presented during the meeting.

The members of the committee will also be updated on the PGMA Scholarship program for Persons with Disabilities and will discuss the Abilympics 2008.

Director Corillo added that EO 437 otherwise known as Community Based Rehabilitation for Persons with Disabilities, must also be informed to the people for it to be operationalized in the Region.

The Regional Committee for the Welfare of the Disable Persons in Eastern Visayas is currently undertaking the profiling of persons with disabilities in Region 8. The members of the Committee will be enlightened on the updates of this project during the incoming meeting, Director Corillo informed.

Another on-going project of the Regional Committee is the ICT for PWDs in the Region.

Director Corillo is calling on all the members of the committee to attend said meeting so that the Committee can continue to make things happen and find ways to effect major shifts that would dramatically boost the lives of the PWD sector in the Region. (PIA 8) [top]
