DSWD-IX holds KALIPI convention
Pagadian City (March 28) -- As part of the Women's Month celebration, the DSWD-IX has sponsored the Regional KALIPI Convention held last March 25, 2008 at the La Viña Hotel, in Zamboanga City.
KALIPI or Kalipunan ng Liping Pilipino is one of the SWD-Peoples Organizations operating at the grassroots. Its membership in region 9 now numbers to 41,911 women.
The event was participated by officers of the KALIPI Provincial and City Federations from all the 3 provinces and 5 cities in the region. This annual convention provides the avenue for the women leaders to present and assess their accomplishments, be updated on women situationer, policies, programs and services for the sector. Also included in this year's agenda is a discussion on the proposed Bill on Magna Carta for Women now pending in Congress, authored by Congresswoman Maria Isabelle Climaco, of the 1st District of Zamboanga.
Another major agenda was the re-election of officers of the KALIPI Regional Executive Council of Leaders, turn-over and oath-taking ceremonies. The new set of officers also mapped out the group's plans for the year.
Among the salient accomplishments of the KALIPI are its participation in the annual celebration of National women's Month, livelihood activities, cleanliness and beautification drives, and involvement in other community affairs.
The initial plan for this year includes strengthening the provincial and city federations, updating the membership profiles and improving on its annual fees collection, which is being used for the group's operational expenses.
The KALIPI Regional Federation is now being headed by its new president, Aurora Solis of Zamboanga City. Mrs. Ma. Socorro Macaso, DSWD-IX Training Specialist II is the Regional Focal Person. (DSWD 9/PIA-IX, Pagadian City) [top]
