PGMA orders release of P100-M for JAGS triangle

by Rose B Palacio

Davao City (5 July) -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo announced the release of P100 million in additional funding for the Jose Abad Santos-Glan Saranggani (JAGS) road construction project.

The President made the announcement in her speech during the recently-concluded 41st Founding Anniversary of Digos, Davao del Sur hosted by Davao del Sur Governor Douglas Cagas.

President Macapagal-Arroyo said "I would like to develop the municipalities of JAGS Cooperation Triangle to bring prosperity to your people," she told Digos City residents adding that a port would be constructed in Glan as part of the development program for the town and nearby municipalities.

The President also informed Digos residents that Davao mangoes can now penetrate the Australian market as she urged farmers in the province to plant a certain type of grass (harvested un the wild) which is a rich source of natural fiber, for export to the United States.

She also rallied the local farmers to increase their rice production which can be sold to neighboring provinces. Davao del Sur produces 5.6 tons of rice per hectare and if the other provinces can come up with the same production, these areas will be self-sufficient in rice.

She also informed the Davao del Sur residents that it was in her last visit to Davao City, where she announced the appointment of Davao del Sur Governor Cagas as the new chairman of the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC). (PIA) [top]
