President strengthens Task Force on Education, expands CHED board

Manila (7 July) -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has designated the director general of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) as a member of the Teacher Education (TEC) in a move to strengthen the existing mechanisms and role of the Presidential Task Force on Education (PTFE) in synchronizing and harmonizing the country's education system.

In Executive Orders (EOs) 729 and 730, the President cited the "need to include the technical-vocational sector of education to the TEC and to educate and train the technical-vocational teachers of unquestionable integrity and competence."

The two EOs were signed by the President on June 4, 2008.

The TEC was created by Republic Act 7784, while the TESDA was created by RA 7796.

The PTFE, on the other hand, was created by EO 652, which the President signed on Aug. 21, 2007 "to assess, plan and monitor the entire educational system."

Meanwhile, EO 730 added two private representatives to the Board of advisers of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) which was earlier created by RA 7722.

The two EOs shall take effect 15 days after their publication in a national newspaper of general circulation. (PIA-MMIO) [top]
