Davao floral float parade organizer encourages participation in alternative category

Davao City (25 July) -- Organizers of the Floral Float Parade are encouraging participants to join the alternative category which is cheaper.

Parade committee chairman James A. Zimmerman said that the alternative category allows small vehicles, either motorized, manual or animal drawn unlike the traditional category which requires a minimum size of eight feet in width and 16 feet in length.

"We have to adjust to the present conditions. The small floats are cheaper and easier to build," said Zimmerman.

The parade starts at Ramon Magsaysay Avenue and will pass through C.M. Recto, San Pedro, Legaspi Streets and all floats will proceed to the Peoples' Park for public viewing.

The traditional float winner will receive P300,000 while the alternative category first placer will win P100,000.

P200,000 will go to the second placer, P100,000 for the third placer and P25,000 each for the two consolation prize winners in the traditional category while the alternative category first runner-up brings home P75,000, P50,000 for the second runner-up, P30,000 for the third runner-up, P20,000 for the third runner-up and P10,000 each for the three consolation prize winners.

The first briefing of participants is on July 31, 2 p.m., at the Conference Room of the Sangguniang Panlungsod building.
