Cabadbaran mayor, officials lead 1st Charter Day rite

Butuan City (4 August) -- Cabadbaran City officials led by the youthful and charismatic Mayor Dale B. Corvera, chief executive par excellence, members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod headed by Vice Mayor Robert Cong and other government officials will lead Cabadbaranons in the celebration of the weeklong 1st Charter Day of the city that would start on July 22 and to culminate on the 28th coinciding the birth of the city, where Mayor Corvera would address his constituents with his historic City Mayor's Report, it was learned.
The colorful, festive and tourism-related Charter Day activities would start on July 22 with an early dawn Diana around the city, to be followed with the opening of Trade Fair, Tourism and Job Fair showcasing the best of Cabadbaran's agricultural products and other industrial potentials and tourist attractions of the city at the spacious and well-maintained Rizal Park and the hilarious Search and Coronation Night of Miss Gay Cabadbaran 2008 at the City's Gymnasium.
According to Mayor Corvera, he and other city officials believed that this significant and meaningful occasion should be celebrated in a festive mood accentuated with colors and jubilation, hence this year's theme: A Celebration of New Beginning, Dream Big Cabadbaran; the former Vice-Governor of Agusan del Norte emphasized.
The active and amiable mayor also said that as the first mayor of this fledgling city, he is laying down the foundations towards attaining economic development and progress of the city through a responsive Sangguniang Panlungsod and the support and cooperation of the civil society and the general public.
Corvera said he would expound these foundations including the thrusts and programs of his administration during his much-awaited City Mayor's Report.
Corvera an active official of the Boy's Scout of the Philippines dating back in the early years of his political career is presently the International Commissioner of this organization and is a close friend of Makati City Mayor Jejomar Binay, who is also its President. Last month, he and Mayor Binay were in South Korea to attend a scouting gathering there and would be in Thailand next month on an invitation too, he confided.
His involvement with the scouting movement, has widen his horizons of public service and could easily relate to his constituents especially the less-fortunate sector of the city, hence, his programs are more inclined with the delivery of social services although he is fortunate, he added, that most of the city's infrastructures are already in place.
Corvera said he is happy and elated with how his constituents have responded to this affair that even his political rivals came to show their support and was emotional while giving his speech during the opening of the Trade Fair.
Justifying the beauty pageant for the third sex or the gay community, Mayor Corvera said that he wanted to recognize the contribution of this sector to the development of the city especially in the propagation of arts and culture, the master in public administration said.
He also disclosed that Cabadbaran is known to be the seat of arts and culture in Agusan and the Street Dancing Competition and Float Presentation Contest during the Grand Parade in the afternoon of July 23 would add color to this celebration, Mayor Corvera added.
Other activities outlined are: July 23 @ 7:00 p.m. Inter-Barangay Boxing Challenge; July 24 @ 9:00 a.m. Unveiling of Newly Named City Streets, 5:00 p.m. Hip-Hop Dance Contest; July 25 @ 4:30 a.m. Walkathon/Hataw; July 27 @ 8:00 a.m. Cheer Dance Extreme '08, Speedball Airsoft Invitational Tournament, @ 9:00 a.m. 1st Gov. Erlpe John M. Amante Cross Country Mountain Biking Challenge; July 28 @ 7:30 a.m. Ecumenical Thanksgiving Service, @ 2:00 p.m. City Mayor's Report, Awarding Ceremony and @ 7:00 p.m. People's Night.
On the other hand, Cong. Edelmiro A. Amante, Representative, 2nd District, Agusan del Norte who authored the law that transformed Cabadbaran into a city, said in his message: "The growth of the city depends on every hand, and more importantly on every heart, for with the heart and hand so joined together, without much waiting, we can witness the unfolding of progress.
