Butuan City (4 August) -- The City Government of Butuan City under the auspices of the City Registrar's Office launched a mass civil wedding for free August 1 at Almont Inland Resort Hotel for couples who have been living together as husband and wife for the last five years without the sanctity of marriage.
This program is in line with the 6-day commemoration of the 58th Adlaw Hong Butuan on August 2, 2008 starting on July 27 (Sunday) coinciding with the "Abayan Festival" in honor of St. Anne, patroness of Agusan Riverside' barangays, particularly, Barangay 13-Leon Kilat which is also celebrating it's annual fiesta.
The mass wedding activity started in 1996, is one of the social programs of Mayor Democrito D. Plaza II, which has been going on for the last 13 years.
Ms. Judith A. Calo, City Registrar, said that the city government will spend for the reception and other expenses while registration is for free and urged officials of the 86 barangays of the city to submit names of interested couples who would like to avail these services for free.
Interested parties should bring the following requirements such as: Birth Certificate or Baptismal Certificate; CENOMAR (Certificate of No Marriage) from NSO; Certificate or Barangay Clearance from the Punong Barangay that nobody is against their marriage; and New Residence Certificate. Deadline for submission of these requirements is on July 25, 2008.
At present, around 50 couples have already registered where a lot of surprises for the participants await them as prepared by the City Registrar's Office.
Legal marriage is important and beneficial not only for the husband and wife but for their children as well especially during enrolment, going abroad, GSIS or SSS benefits, etc.
Those interested are enjoined to visit or see the City Registrar's Office, Ground Floor, City Hall Building, Doongan Road and see Ms. Lolita Elumba or Gloria Limen or call Tel. No. 344-0285 for more information. (Northern Mindanao Chronicle/PIA-Caraga)
