Revilla graces Nutrition Month closing program in Misamis Oriental

Cagayan de Oro City (5 August) -- Senator Ramon "Bong" Revilla will be gracing Misamis Oriental's Nutrition Month culmination program at the Provincial Capitol kiosk in Cagayan de Oro City on Friday, August 8.

This, after Senator Revilla accepted the invitation of Misamis Oriental Governor Oscar S. Moreno to become the honored guest and keynote speaker of the province's annual Nutrition Month's closing program and awarding ceremonies.

Misamis Oriental, for the past three years, has been a recipient of National Nutrition Council's Green Banner Award, for its projects on food production, micro-nutrient supplementation, food fortification, nutrition education, livelihood assistance, nutrition advocacies, and maternal and child health services.

These resulted to the 4.36-percent reduction in malnutrition cases among pre-school from a high 18.84 percent in 2005 to last year's 14.18 percent.

Senator Revilla, who currently chairs the Senate Committee on Public Information and Mass Media, is expected to focus his talk on the theme for this year's celebration, "Sa Wastong Nutrition ni Mommy, Siguradong Healthy si Baby."

Provincial Nutrition Action Officer Girlie O. Barcenas said that, aside from being the keynote speaker, Senator Revilla will be witnessing the ceremonial turnover of G4 (Garden of Go, Grow and Glow) seeds, recognition of top nutrition program implementers, and the awarding of prizes to nutrition-related contests.

Barcenas said that, for this year, the municipality of Lugait will be honored for having been adjudged as the top implementer of nutrition program in the Misamis Oriental. And this is so because the recipient of the Most Outstanding Barangay and the Most Outstanding Barangay Nutrition Scholar awards are Barangay Poblacion of Lugait and and its Barangay Nutrition Scholar, Ms. Elenida Reyes.

During the occasion, winners in the Healthy Mother and Child, Slogan, Jingle, Nutrition G4 Meal and Dessert, and Nutri-Quiz contests will also be publicly recognized and will received their respective awards. (Misamis Oriental PPO/PIA-MisOrOccCam i-Net) [top]
