Marines nab ASG in Isabela City, Basilan
Isabela City de Basilan (5 August) -- Joint operatives from the 1st Marine Brigade (1MBde) and Marine Battalion Landing Team -1 (MBLT-1) recently (August 4, 2008) captured suspected Abu Sayaff Group (ASG) member Usman Asari Aldani in Isabela City bringing to four (4) the total of neutralized ASG members in Basilan over the past two (2) months.
Combined elements from Intelligence and Security Teams of 1MBde and MBLT-1 were able to stalk and subsequently apprehend the suspect through the aid of an informant while the suspect was buying provisions at the Isabela Public Market.
This arrest proves that the people of Basilan are vigilant and dedicated to the coordinated security efforts initiated by law enforcement agencies to sustain peace and order in the province.
Both the military-police units and the general public are becoming aware that their respective stakeholder responsibilities for these efforts are vital in achieving genuine stability and development in the province.
Aldani, who was positively identified by two (2) witnesses, is a known accomplice of ASG leaders Khadaffy JANJALANI and Isnilon Hapilon. He has a warrant of arrest for Kidnapping and Serious Illegal Detention with a standing monetary reward of Two Million Pesos (Php 2M) to be awarded to the informant, who is now seeking inclusion to the witness protection program of the government.
The suspect, who confessed immediately to the accusations, is currently undergoing questioning and will subsequently be turned over to the PNP for proper legal disposition.
Just recently (June 28, 2008) ASG Member Said Bapaki was apprehended by MBLT-1 operatives while two (2) unidentified ASG combatants were killed and another three (3) wounded last August 1, 2008 in an encounter with the Marines in Tipo-Tipo, Basilan. (MBLT-1/PIA-BASULTA) [top]
