Hundreds of moms mark culmination of Nutrition Month

Bacolod City (5 August) -- More than 600 mothers from various barangays participated in the Nutrition Fiesta 2008 in observance of the National Nutrition Month in Bacolod City held last July 31, 2008 at the BAYS Center, Councilor Jocelle Batapa-Sigue, chair of the Bacolod Bacolod City Gender and Development (GAD) Council said.

Various organizations such as Mt. Kanlaon Lions Club, Girls Scout of The Philippines-Bacolod, Mapalad Body Works, Coca-Cola Bottling Company, Pepsi-Cola Bottling Company, Zest-O Corporation, Nestle Philippines, Canlaon Medical Society, Negros Agriculture Movement, Bioenergetics Alternative Health Multi-Purpose Cooperative and volunteer doctors from Our Lady Of Mercy Specialty Hospital and City Health Office provided services to the mothers.

This year's theme - "Sa Wastong Nutrition Ni Mommy, Siguradong Healthy Si Baby" emphasizes the importance of good maternal health and nutrition as factors to ensuring healthy children, Batapa-Sigue said.

Different activities like the singing contest among mothers dubbed as "The Singing Nanay" was held in the morning and a nutrition quiz competition among barangay nutrition scholars (BNS) took place in the afternoon. (Batapa News/PIA/EAD) [top]
