Silay City ends Nutrition Month celebration

Bacolod City (5 August) -- About 200 children and their mothers received food assistance packages recently from local government of Silay City during the culmination of the Nutrition Month celebration with this year theme "Sa wastong nutrition ni mommy, siguradong healthy si baby!"

Identified as the severely and moderately malnourished children from the 16 barangays of the city, the recipients accepted packages of oatmeal, rice, milk, sugar and other food commodities during the culmination program at the Silay City public plaza.

Silay City Mayor Jose Montelibano said his administration is serious towards eradicating malnourished in the city, adding that programs geared towards providing a healthy and well-nourished community for Silaynon children topped his priority program.

The Nutrition month celebration in Silay started on the 1st day of July with the hanging of streamers and posters at strategic places in the city. Mass weighing of children and nutrition counseling in all barangay health centers and at the out patient department and pedia ward of Teresita Jalandoni Memorial Hospital.

Local public elementary and tertiary schools also participated in the celebration. (PIA/cad) [top]
