PPA marks 32nd anniversary

Cagayan de Oro City (5 August) -- The Parole and Probation Administration marked its 32nd Anniversary on July 24, 2008, with the theme "PPA E-Services: Connecting for Effeciency, Quality and Competitiveness."

Thirty-two years ago, the Probation Law was created by virtue of Presidential Decree No. 968, otherwise known as The Probation Law of 1976 which also gave birth to the Parole and Probation Administration under the Department of Justice, the mission of which is to rehabilitate probationers/parolees to promote the development of their integral persons by utilizing innovative techniques which give full respect of the dignity of man and recognize his divine destiny.

For its part, the Lanao del Norte Parole and Probation Office at Capitol Compound, Pigcarangan, Tubod, Lanao del Norte, celebrated the 32nd PPA Week on July 21-25, 2008 with simple but significant activities.

On July 21, 2008, 94 probationers and parolees participated in the tree planting activity at the dumpsite located at Barangay Tubaran,Tubod, Lanao del Norte and planted some 400 mahogany seedlings around the vicinity.

The Local Government of Tubod and the Provincial Government of Lanao del Norte provided dump trucks to haul the seedlings and transported probationers and parolees to and fro the planting site. Meanwhile, DENR and ENRO of Lanao del Norte provided the seedlings.

After the fellowship lunch, the regular rehabilitation program under the Therapeutic Community Program was conducted. Fr. Oliver McCrossan, a Columban Missionary, talked about Climate Change. He presented the effects of global warming to the whole creation which we are experiencing nowadays and challenged the audience to help preserve the earth as they would their own homes. We were also privileged by the presence of Mr. Peter Cross from Nottingham, U.K. as our guest.

Other activities for the weeklong celebration are were information drives on the main features of P.D. 968, as amended, the new BPP Rules and Procedures and the harmonized PPA programs in the Provincial and Municipal Jails of the province.

On July 22, 2008, Chief Probation and Parole Officer Mae Dolorita Kaamiño-Monicit conducted an information drive at the Provincial Jail located at Pigcarangan, Tubod, Lanao del Norte, attended by 145 inmates and on July 23, 2008 at the BJMP, located at Poblacion, Tubod, Lanao del Norte, with 40 inmates in attendance.
