German NGO strengthens education-for-all program in Maasin City

By Erna Sy Gorne

Southern Leyte (August 5) -- The active assistance of Kindefhilfe Philippinen, a non government organization based in Germany brings relief to the city government's education for all program as another home economics building has been turned over to Baugo Elementary School in Maasin City last Tuesday, August 4 this year.

Maasin City Mayor Maloney Samaco disclosed in an interview over the local radio station, DYDM, that another Home Economics building which costs Php 200,000.00 has been turned to a far-flung public elementary school to replace its old and dilapidated H.E. building.

According to Mayor Samaco, Kinderhilfe Philippinen Country Director Jurgen Scniedt also delivered sewing machines, office tables, among others, in time with the simple turn-over ceremony.

That all the donor asked is for the school stakeholders to take care of the donated home economics building. It was also learned that Mr. Scneidt also promised to the city mayor to build another day care center building for Batuan Elementary School still in Maasin City.

Mayor Samaco gave a sigh of relief as the city government has recently been a beneficiary of a child-centered non-government organization, whose assistance is focused for the welfare of children. The said NGO has been for a long time a generous donor to almost all of the day care centers, manage a center for abandoned children, among others, in the municipality of Padre Burgos. In the previous year, Kinderhilfe Philippinen also donated a rehabilitation center, built blood bank and rehabilitated the children's section at the Salvacion Oppus Yniguez Memorial Provincial Hospital (SOYMPH).
