ASEAN Secretariat takes part as observer in Pan Beibu Gulf meeting in China
Jakarta (6 August) -- The ASEAN Secretariat participated as an observer in the Pan Beibu Gulf (PBG) Proposed Joint Expert Group Meeting in Beihai, Guangxi, China on 30 July 2008. Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN, Mr Nicholas Tandi Dammen, attended the meeting.
The Proposed Joint Expert Group Meeting arose as a result of China's proposal to establish a Joint Expert Group with ASEAN Member States. The proposed Joint Expert Group will comprise representatives from China and seven ASEAN Member States (Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Thailand, and Viet Nam).
Upon the suggestion of ASEAN Secretariat, the Meeting agreed to table the proposal for discussion at the ASEAN Senior Economic Officials Meeting (SEOM) - China Consultation, which will be held in Brunei Darussalam this week.
The third Pan Beibu Gulf Economic Cooperation Forum was held concurrently in Beihai from 30 to 31 July 2008. (ASEANSec) [top]
