Aggressive campaign for natural family planning reaches barangays

By Erna S. Gorne

Southern Leyte (August 6) -- Despite some apprehensions to be misunderstood, provincial state workers here worked hard to reach as much as fifty couples being accommodated in one class held at the barangays, Ms. Velma P. Kangleon, the Provincial Population Officer disclosed in an interview with PIA-Southern Leyte yesterday.

Ms. Kangleon said the provincial population office together with their municipal counterparts have aggressively conducted classes to, at least 1,000 couples in Maasin I and Maasin II catchment areas alone in a week's time. She further disclosed that the provincial team has also roamed almost two-thirds of the eighteen municipalities of Southern Leyte.

That the group campaigned for Responsible Parenting Movement coupled with the controversial family planning concept, however, this time the campaign focused on the natural family planning scheme, she added.

It is a must that only those complete couples should be allowed to attend said classes. For the two-day lectures dwell on the duties and responsibilities of the parents in taking care of the children; rights of a child, among others. The couples were advised that as they plan how many children they want to raise, it should be balanced with their resources.

Among the natural planning methods encouraged by the group is exclusive breastfeeding for the new born children within six months as studies shows there will be no reproduction to take place with this practice. This is really exclusive breastfeeding without water nor mixed with bottled milk, she added. (PIA Southern Leyte) [top]
