Typhoon Frank victims in Bacolod get help from city gov't
Bacolod City (7 August) -- Victims of Typhoon Frank in the city recently received financial assistance from the Bacolod City government with Mayor Evelio Leonardia and Vice Mayor Jude Thaddeus Sayson leading the activity at the Bays Center.
More than 50 families received P5,000 each after their houses were destroyed by the typhoon while 429 homes were damaged. Home owners received P3,000 each.
Leonardia said the Department of Social Services and Development assessed the damaged and identified the victims out of the 38 barangays badly hit by the calamity.
People's Champ and Filipino Boxing Legend Manny Pacquiao also gave P1million to victims here benefiting 6,320 persons who received five kilos of NFA rice, canned goods and noodles.
The Bacolod Society of America and the Negrenses of America also gave a combined amount of more than P100, 000 that the mayor brought home from the U.S. About 1,000 victims were helped from this donation.
In the national level, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo released P1 Billion to help Typhoon Frank victims nationwide and earned the praises of many Filipinos in her excellent handling of the difficult situation that caught international attention fallowing the sinking of a commercial ship killing hundreds of its passengers.
