Captured sea turtle released to natural environment
Negros Occidental (7 August) -- A tagged female sea turtle was released to its natural habitat recently in Escalante City, this province.
The release was done by no less than Escalante Mayor Melecio Yap Jr. and Police Chief Inspector Leonardo Angcon to demonstrate an example on the city's effort to save its marine resources.
Several days prior to the release, the turtle was reportedly caught in the fishnet of a local fisherman along the del Pilar shorelines of the city, and was tied by nylon and was kept in a fishpond.
The incident was reported to the City Civil Security and Agriculture offices.
Yap ordered the release of the 6 kilogram female sea turtle with tag number 10151C Q.C. after a tag bearing the name Escalante City was added to the turtle. The turtle is 15 inches long and 13.5 inches wide. (Escalante City/PIA/EAD) [top]
