Feature: The quiet before the ARMM polls
by CL Cadorna
Koronadal City (7 August) -- While Comelec preparation for ARMM polls is almost done, security plans by Army and PNP are already in place.
Most ARMM areas are enjoying a relatively peaceful environment with no visible signs of tense election campaign.
In Maguindanao, all that can be seen are campaign posters of candidates prominently postered in public places, along highways and on vehicles.
Absent are public address systems (loud speakers) making rounds in the communities to solicit support for candidates to keep the season in upbeat mood.
Fr. David Procalla, Parish Priest of Rosary Heights parish in Cotabato City and Central Mindanao Coordinator for the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) has called on all responsible citizens to be vigilant and help share their efforts to keep the historic ARMM election peaceful.
He said, the PPCRV have already been conducting activities such as voters education to prepare voters for Monday's election. They had been working with the volunteers of the Consortium of Citizens for Reforming the Elections (C-CARE) in other four provinces of the region.
As of this reporting time, the region is relatively peaceful and no reports of election related incidents had been recorded. (PIA 12) [top]
