Bulacan Rescue 117 wins KALASAG Award

Malolos City (13 August) -- President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo recently conferred an award on Bulacan Rescue 117 as Kalasag National Awardee for Best Non-Government Emergency Responder in a program held in Malacaņang.

Bulacan Rescue 117, a member of the Bulacan Provincial Disaster Management Coordinating Council (PDMCC), received the plaque from Secretary Gilbert Teodoro of the Department of National Defense (DND) who is also chair of the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC).

The Kalasag or Kalamidad at Sakuna Labanan, Sariling Galing ang Kaligtasan Award is the highest award given to Disaster Coordinating Councils (DCCs) nationwide. The Bulacan Rescue 117 has been a very active partner in the province's disaster management and response network.

Relative to this, Felicisima Mungkal, head of the Bulacan PDMCC, announced their having won first runner up in the Fifth First Aid Basic Life Support Team Competition in Subic, Zambales recently. She added that some of Bulacan's Municipal Disaster Coordinating Councils (MDCCs) won several prizes in the competition among DCCs of Central Luzon.

Bulacan Governor Joselito Mendoza expressed elation over the awards bestowed on his province, saying that these are proofs of their efforts to upgrade their emergency response network during disaster periods.

He cited the effective partnership of government and the private sector towards preparedness during times of disaster in their desire to ensure the safety of their constituents. (PIA III) [top]
