CAPELCO nets 191 power bandits in 2007
Roxas City (13 August) -- The Capiz Electric Cooperative (CAPELCO) has apprehended 191 member-consumers committing electricity pilferage activities in 2007.
This was revealed by CAPELCO General Manager Engr. Edgar Diaz as part of the General Manager's Report in view of the cooperative's upcoming 33rd annual general membership assembly on August 23.
CAPELCO has introduced the free cellphone load promo in middle of 2007 to encourage wider participation from the cooperative's member-consumers in the campaign against power pilferage.
"The campaign has recovered 667,090.67 kWh," reported Diaz, adding that the cleared 1,260 kilometers stretch of lines as well as rotten poles replacement have significantly contributed to the reduction of systems loss.
"CAPELCO gives a free P300 load to anybody who can give a confirmed report on persons who pilfer electricity or on illegal use of electricity on a first come or text basis," said CAPELCO Public Information Officer Kenneth Emmanuel Tipon.
The interested tipsters may text the name, address of the power thief and the method of illegal use of electricity to 0216327054 and 09273546815 for Smart and Globe users, respectively.
Illegal use of electricity is penalized under Republic Act 7832 referred to as the "Anti-electricity and Electric Transmission Lines/Materials Pilferage Act of 1994." (PIA/A. Lumaque) [top]
