DOST JLSS scholarships application deadline set

Davao City (14 August) -- The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) has announced that the deadline for submission of application for the Junior Level Science Scholarships (JLSS) is on August 15, 2008.

Application forms can be obtained and filed at the DOST regional office along Bajada, Davao City or can be downloaded at www.sei.dost.gov.ph.

DOST OIC Eduardo Tesorero said the scholarship grant is in line with the Arroyo administration's call to help improve the country's global competitiveness and capability to innovate through alternative approaches in science and technology (S&T) and to accelerate the production of high-level human resources needed for S&T activities.

JLSS is open to all regular third year college students during the academic year 2008-2009 who are currently enrolled in any state universities under any of the following identified priority S&T course: Agricultural Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, Chemical engineering, Chemistry, Computer engineering, Computer science, Electrical engineering, ECE, Food Technology, Industrial Engineering, IT, Mathematics, Mechanical engineering, Physics and Statistics, among others.

Scholarship privileges include: a) tuition fee not to exceed P6,000.00/semester; b) book allowance of P3,000.00.academic year; c) transportation allowance; d) monthly living allowance of P4,000.00 for those who will pursue BS Physics/Applied Physics and P3,000.00 for those who will pursue other DOST priority courses.
