Commentary: ARMM elections signal advent of automated polls in RP
By Renee F. De Guzman
San Fernando City, La Union (14 August) -- An automated electoral process using the latest technology for voting, counting, canvassing and transmission of election results is one of the 10-point agenda of President Arroyo's administration along socio-economic and political reforms.
The successful pilot-testing of poll automation in this year's elections in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM), despite the hitches and imperfections proved that with strong political will, things can be done.
The poll automation dry-run also proved obsolete the manual, fraud-prone manner of voting, counting and canvassing of votes including transmittal of results.
The positive results of the exercise has not only rendered credibility of the ARMM elections but it also restored COMELEC's credibility to conduct free, honest, peaceful, clean and orderly elections.
Having proved its worth in the ARMM, we can expect a credible Philippine electoral process henceforth. (PIA La Union) [top]
