PALMA P Alliance of PIOs and PCROs organized

Midsayap. North Cotabato (14 August) -- The Philippine Information Agency and the Philippine National Police initiated the organization of PALMA P Alliance of Public Information Officers (PIOs) and Police Community Relations Officers (PCROs) to work for a sustainable communication and advocacy efforts towards the speedy recovery and development of the area from the social disorganization due to armed conflict.

The organization comprises of the municipal public information officers and police community relations officers of the municipal police stations of Pikit, Aleosan, Libungan, Midsayap, Alamada and Pigkawayan (PALMA P), all in North Cotabato.

"We have to consolidate efforts to push for a strong communication support to all the law enforcement, relief, rehabilitation and other development activities being negated by other sectors. As public information officers and police community relations officers it is your bounden duty to communicate all these to all the constituents especially those who have been displaced by the armed conflict," PIA 12 Director Olivia Sudaria propounded during the organizational meeting at the Provincial Disaster Operation Center, in this town.

P/Senior Supt. Casimero Medes, chief of the PNP 12 Community Relations Office urged the PIOs amd PCROs to enlighten the people on the issues and concerns which arise often in this crucial period in the affected barangays.

"People tend to believe the peddled lies and if these remain unchecked and explained, the respect and credibility of authorities and the government is undermined," Medes pointed out.

Director Sudaria recommended for a three-month contingent communication plan which will cover interpersonal communication activities like dialogues and forum as well as media utililization activities particularly the print and broadcast.

The PIA 12 Director said trainings and seminars should also be conducted to equip these public relations practitioners knowledge and skills vital to the performance of their tasks. This will be part of the long term communication plan to be formulated by the organization, she added. (OTS/PIA 12) [top]
